Management metrics leadership actually uses

The situation

Leadership reviewed a monthly pack of more than forty measures. Meetings repeatedly reopened the question of which numbers were correct, while important decisions were still made on instinct.

The signal

The reporting was not short of data. It lacked structure: very few measures were connected to a decision, an owner or a meaningful threshold.

The move

The pack was reduced to a focused set of management metrics. Signal thresholds, ownership and decision rights were defined, and the monthly review was redesigned as a decision forum.

What changed
  • One agreed view of performance across the leadership team
  • A management review centred on decisions rather than reporting
  • A named owner and defined trigger for every management metric

What are your numbers actually telling you?
